Power and water supply
The water supply of Doessel in the past happened by wells.
Possible bacteria infection meant a high risk. During dry summers water
shortage occured.
In 1912 the communities of Doessel, Hohenwepel, Menne
and Ossendorf decided to build up the United Ossendorf waterworks. Doessel’s
cause was plead by mayor Josef Nutt and Dr. jur. Heinrich Fischer. A collector
well with pump room was erected in Ossendorf near the river Diemel, a water
tower was built in Hohenwepel. The waterworks were inaugurated in November
1913.
The water is pumped to the 5.5 km distant water tower
from which Doessel and Riepen Manor obtain their water. Between 1959
and 1960 the waterworks were completed and basically improved.

In 1912 the municipal council decided to get connected to
the power supply system. In 1914 a power supply contract with the Warburg
district was signed. Because of the outbreak of war the connecting operation
that had already begun could not brought to an end until 1919. The works
included among other things the installation of 11 street lamps and the
power suplly in 92 houses. The extra costs of 35 % by comparison with the
estimate of 1914 were distributed to the community members.
account of 1919 concerning the connection works
In 1920 the so far district-run local power supply system
was taken over by the community on its own and a 40 years contract was
signed with the Eder barrage power station in Kassel. The increase of power
consumption required the construction of a 110 kV transmission line between
Ossendorf and Doessel in 1970.
Since the year 1995 two wind power plants built up by
Doessel farmers generate and feed power into the local power supply company’s
network.
