History of the educational
system
The second school building was demolished in 1962.
The first certain news about the Doessel school history go
back to 1806 when the chronicle mentions the death of the teacher Johann
Georg Sommer. His successor was Franz Bischof. He was followed in 1812
by Josef Auffenberg who stayed in Doessel till his death in 1866. To improve
his salary he obtained the so-called „Angerhof“ farm in 1813 and the „Anger“
place in leasehold in 1818. Mr Auffenberg also worked as sacristan and
organist. Between 1866 and 1897 his son-in-law Philipp Toelle taught the
pupils.
Successor of Philipp Toelle (left with his
wife)
became his son Carl (right) who headed the school
between 1897 and 1932
Successor of Philipp Toelle became by request of the municipality
his son Carl. He headed the school between 1897 and 1932.

During the term of Josef Voss (1932 - 1961) the coeducation
was introduced in 1938.
Between 1961 and 1966 Georg Fabian headed the school.
From 1952 Martha Toelle - a daughter of Carl Toelle - worked as a teacher.
Until her retirement in 1974 she continued the tradition of the families
Auffenberg and Toelle who taught 142 years - 120 years thereof without
interruption.
Further long-standing teachers were among others: Elisabeth
Buscher (1909 - 1947), Hildegard Floren (1947 - 1952) and Anton Solzbach
(1965 - 1969).
The first Doessel school building was situated underneath
the church. When it was dilapidated in 1842 the municipality bought the
house and garden from the Jew David Schoenfeld so that the municipality
came to a new school and apartment building and a great garden at low costs.
This was situated near the present-day bus stop until 1962. In 1891 the
third building was erected. The fourth one was built in 1962.

are now being taught in Daseburg.
