Woodwind and brass music band

In 1921 the woodwind and brass band was founded by 12 members. The first instruments were bought secondhand in Bonenburg. First conductor was Wilhelm Deimel, he was followed by Hermann Janecke - a former military musician. He was payed in kind: for 20 music lessons he received 10 sacks of potatoes. The first rehearsals took place in the Lotze house.

In 1922 the first public performance happened in Daseburg. During the carnival 1924 the first „Fool’s procession“ was launched: the musicians played for Bologna sausages and coins and provoked laughter. The first new instrument - a hand-made tuba - was bought in 1928.

Early in the thirties August Otte took over the concuctor’s baton for a short time. In 1933/1934 it came to a standstill of the club life because a greater part of the musicians did not want to join the national socialist music organisation „Stahlhelm“ (steel helmet).

In 1948 the club life conducted by Rudi Mohr began to re-flourish. Some of the pieces then arranged by him are played even today. Theo Siewert has been chairman since 1951. This year on the occasion of its 30th anniversary the club celebrated the first music festival in Doessel, too.

For professional reasons in the middle of the sixties Rudi Mohr had to hand over the baton to his brother Paul which he still holds today. In these days the members themselves added a rehearsal room to the community hall. Between 1979 and 1994 the club rehearsed in the old school.

Young musicians in the fifties

Since 1971 the young talents have received a basic musical training. In 1975 the youth orchestra was founded. In 1976 a concert of the „Band of the Royal Air Force“ took place conducted by Eric Banks. Later a large part of the orchestra lost teir lives in a coach accident.

An important event was the construction of the new club house by effective help of the villagers. In 1996 the 65 active members of the club could celebrate their 75th anniversary.
