Village craftsmanship
Employees of the Kassmann joinery
Until the 19th century many craftmanship trades were present
at the place. The village trade met the bare necessities and delivered
the agricultural demands.
The blacksmith was in charge for the manufacture of tools
and the shoeing of the horses, occasionally he even had to serve as a dentist.
The cartwright delivered wagons for agriculture or transport of goods.
For the remaining woodworking the carpenter was in charge. Carpenter’s
place once situated near the present-day petrol-station Soethe was a part
of the village for a long time.

Some of the house-names who remained when a house was sold
give information about the profession of the owner. So the house-name „Wagener“
(cartwright) designated a carpenter’s workshop. The house-name „Bettchenschmitt“
is said to come from a smithy.

be baken by everyone in public municipal baking ovens situated in Daseburger
Strasse or close to the church. Other professions present in the village
were saddler, shoemaker, joiner, tailor, painter and bricklayer.
